Proofreading for BusinessIn the competitive world of business, surprisingly few companies take the trouble to employ professional proofreaders when it comes to producing marketing materials, advertising, and website content.
Although your document may be well written, informative and apt, it's all too easy to miss those small errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar which can undermine your credibility and put you at a disadvantage.
Proofreading for Authors
Self-publishing is very popular these days, with many aspiring novelists eager to see their work online at Amazon and other e-book websites, but not all would-be authors realise the importance of having their hard work professionally checked out before publication. Working on a manuscript for months, an author can become 'blind' to errors which can easily be rectified by a professional proofreader.
Copy Editing
This is a more complex process, and involves checking the structure, layout, and general 'flow' of the work, and usually takes place before proofreading. If your work is already quite polished then this may not be necessary for you. Please feel free to submit a sample if you are not sure. Fees can vary depending on the complexity of the task, so I provide a quote upon submission.

How does it work?
If you are not sure whether your work requires proofreading or more thorough copy editing, then submit a sample and I can help you to decide. I accept documents in both Microsoft Word and Open Office formats.
Your corrected document is returned to you with all corrections, suggestions and improvements highlighted, and these can then be accepted or rejected by you. In addition you can see the fully revised copy, with the changes already made, for comparison.
Email your document, together with your deadline if appropriate, and I will reply with a firm quote before commencing. Once you have accepted, payment should be made in advance by bank transfer, or Paypal for those outside the UK.
Document turnaround is normally 72 hours, but for urgent cases could be 48 hours.
Fees
Proofreading £12 per 1000 words
Copy Editing from £15 per 1000 words (a firm quote can be given upon submission)
- for 48 hour turnaround add 15% to the above fees.
